Bryan Snyder

Bryan Snyder, Carlsbad based artist and editor of carlsbadcrawl.com, has been implementing urban art installations and projects in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff and Los Angeles for the past 6 years.

Snyder has been working out of his Carlsbad Village based studio for 4 years where he has created a number of community projects, hosted both solo and community participation shows and has invited locals and visitors into his studio to experience the creation of his artwork first hand.

Snyder's interest in the "Surfing Madonna" includes the visual, the message and the significance of the piece in art history.

Because of the public outcry once the City of Encinitas announced that the mosaic would come down, Snyder drafted what he calls the "Sanctioned Street Art Rubric," a set of criteria to grade art placed in the streets. He feels the term "street art" should be extracted from the definition of vandalism through a quantitative analysis of a piece of art.

He further explains that council members are limited to a generic definition. This rubric gives them more freedom.
