Days tumble away while you complain that there is not enough time to get everything done. Seconds are saved by trading in outdated phones for hyper connectivity. A stroll through the video store in your pajamas takes too long so you stream instead and social interactions in the classroom don’t fit in with your schedule so you enroll online.
There are so many ways to save a few seconds each day, but sometimes saving a few seconds prevents important observations, memories and continued traditions.
Do you prefer the upgrade or are you content with the scenic detour?
Even the most traditional life is somewhat of a balancing act, but the life of an artist dedicated to their passion is a balancing act high above a smoldering smorgasbord of gears, grease and steam…
…and it’s all worth it!
What hardships do you endure to keep true to your passions?
The formation of a new idea begins during a quiet night on the couch or over a cup of coffee at your favorite cafe. It come to you during a Summer day on the beach or while daydreaming under the steady stream of your morning shower. It tumbles into your mind while staring at a red light or during one of the random conversations throughout the day. An idea develops at all times and at all places.
Once an idea is organized it thrives for public interaction. It claws at the inter-workings of your mind and swells with excitement. At the point when your idea reaches maturity, it breaks through the surface and gushes for all to see, analyze and critique.
At what point do your ideas gush into public view?

During Summer the waves are usually small, hopefully warm and sometimes red. Swells rarely crash upon our beaches in any height worth surfing and mid day chop is common. A refreshing dunk is threatenned by the omnipresent stingray and thick beds of sand crabs crowd the shoreline.
During the first week of September a storm jumped the gun over New Zealand and sent an early swell tumbling towards the California coastline causing many rare surf spots to heave massive slabs into the late Summer air.
Witnesses claim giant waves in Oceanside, Carlsbad and as North as the Wedge, but one of the biggest, heaviest and rarest spots broke down in La Jolla. Predominately a body boarding wave because of its steep drop and heavy conditions, the break was dared only by a handful of surfers.
Tourists were in awe of the 12ft. waves and locals were shocked at the timing of the swell as spectators cheered and snapped photos well into the afternoon.

The projected surf forecast of 6-9ft. waves sent surfers, photographers and ocean admirers to the coast as the slightly walled swell that originated off the coast of New Zealand crashed upon the Carlsbad beaches.
Though long time Carlsbad resident Dave Jones stood out in the Tamarack lineup by plucking large set waves and styling long rides, his presence was known widely as he walked along the coast with a half of his board under each arm.
When the waves pick in Carlsbad time seems to stand still. Joggers stretch extra long at key breaks, traffic creeps the pace of an observant crawl and time cards remain untouched. Lifeguards, though attentively aware of the ocean, even yank the brake and stare into the horizon.

Tightly packed and buzzing with live music, laughter and creativity, Snyder Art in the Carlsbad Village hosted its 2nd annual art show titled ‘You Create the Art’ on Aug. 25th, 2011.
Art shows and art themed street fairs seem to be popping up every weekend, but in this case, Snyder approached the idea of an art exhibition differently.
“All the shows artwork is created the night of the show by all who attends the show,” he explains. “It encourages the creative process. It brings people together… and it is my gift back to the community.”
The night began with 50+ blank canvases scattered across his studio walls. A center table was loaded with art supplies and set in the middle of the room. Supplies included paint, collage, pastel, crayons and chalk.
The doors swung open promptly at 5pm and the studio soon after filled with the first wave of guests. Many children painted on canvases hung low to the ground while parents hovered nearby snapping photos and praise. Pizza provided by Paradise Pizza of Carlsbad was delivered to the studio throughout the evening and local favorite Sprout Farm played all night.
When asked by the early kid guests if a finished piece was good. Snyder would explain that it is good if you enjoyed making it. “The goal is to fall in love with the act of creating art, not with the art itself.”
Emphasis was put on the creative process where Snyder encouraged attendees to paint without worry of the final product. “Each canvas is never finished and will most likely be painted over multiple times. This allows timid guests to paint freely.”
Some guests were return artists from last year’s inaugural ‘You Create the Art’ while others heard about it for the first time through any number of marketing outlets Snyder implements into the streets and web.
“I found out about this event through a flyer,” one guest told Snyder.
Whether the guests found out about this event through a flyer taped to a light pole, through the viral web campaign or the 15ft. web address drawn in the sand on the Carlsbad coastline, one thing is sure that at least a handful of the show’s guests made an early trip to the local art store the following morning.
