Urban art or Urban litter?

While some prefer clean and manicured urban landscapes void of most forms of artistic expression, others desire for wild growth of creativity.

What are the appropriate ways of encouraging more artistic expression?

Art for sure! I am always so happy when i see chalk/public art materials in random places! Last time was in a restroom at a coffee shop in San Francisco.. Also- Im sure the owner would rather brush/wash off chalk than paint over spray paint… Maybe the chalk fairy person should have also left a big brush or something too.

An art mob. Like a flash mob, but instead everyone pulls out art supplies to share and begins drawing, painting, sketching, whatever. People are creative, they just need to not worry about what someone will think of their art. The chalk caused immature acts, not so much art.

It takes a lot of courage to create art in an act of defiance, to challenge people to see art in a new way (e.g., scrawled with chalk on the wall).

I think new artists need a place where they can make mistakes and gain confidence, before taking it public. Many people would probably never reach that point.

BTW what happened to the lady that was doing chalk sidewalk paintings last summer? This summer we had the fire juggler guy, which wasn’t as nice in my opinion (although he juggled well).
