The rooms of the Getty Center Museum to the back alleys of West Hollywood, the trendy shops of Melrose Ave. to the melancholy streets of Skid Row; sites threw themselves at me as I explored the artistically diverse observations of Los Angeles.

You passed up an opportunity to meet Blek? Bummer! Sorta funny that you saw so much Banksy, and Blek had a showing in town. . . Since he was such an influence on Banksy.
I also find it unsettling that so much of the art from the streets is being kidnapped and posted up on the walls in the galleries. I find it quite ironic. Even though graff is a fame game, I think the streets are still humble, and there shouldn’t be a price tag put on that. Graffiti is for the people, it should stay in the public.
It is an interesting question you bring up about this art movement, having been around for so long, finally gaining weight within the art community–namely amongst fine art museums such as the MoMA. Is this a good or a bad thing?? Is it taking away from what the artform stands upon– its societal and political influenced foundation? OR, is it now serving as a “get-out-of-jail-free” card (both literally and figuratively) for these ‘typographic terrorists’ who are constantly being bombarded with Anti-Graff Laws? Will the legitimacy of this movement as a Fine Art form keep artists out of jail? Or will it serve as a sell-out for this once underground art revolution?

Movements of art end up in Galleries and Museums which ultimately represent our eras history.
In a conceptual way, I think that it is very contradicting but making history as an artist or rather, making a legacy as an artist is a life long accomplishment that is vital for an artist with a defined creative statement. If you can put it up in the streets for everyone while selling it in a gallery with “recognition”, you are getting the best of both worlds and you are saying fuck you in the face of everyone that thinks it is typographic terrorism. As an artist, don’t you want as many people exposed to your work as possible? This underground revolution is like a weed growing through the cracks in the street sidewalk and into the marbled floors of the art museums.
